Zack David Mefford, Age 65

Zack David Mefford, 65, passed away on January 1, 2016 in Dallas, TX. He was born on December 6, 1950 to Z.M. and Maggie (Mance) Mefford in Dallas, TX.

Zack entered the US Marine Corps. at the age of 17 and proudly served his country. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Rifle Sharpshooter Badge and was Honorably Discharged after four years of service. Upon discharge, he obtained an Associate Degree in Auto Paint and Body at Eastfield College. For the next 25 years, Zack was a bus driver for DISD and loved chauffeuring his special needs children to school. He also was well known as “Santa Claus” in the Seagoville/Dallas area at the Gibson and Walmart stores and many private events as well.

Zack was the owner and auctioneer at Oak Hill Auction in Dallas, TX for many years and will be remembered for his Thanksgiving dinners there where everyone, whether he knew you or not, was invited. He made many trips to Mexico to buy and sell merchandise and even sold watermelons at times. Zack was an avid gun collector and “people” collector, he never met a stranger and had many friends. During the last few years he was devoted to and cared for his grandchildren, who affectionately knew him as “Papa”. The sky was the limit and he would gladly give them anything that he could. Zack was a Christian by faith and knew that the good Lord was ready for him to come home.

Preceding him in death are his parents Z.M. and Maggie Mefford, brother Jerry Mefford and sister Lola Oliver.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 41 years, Laurie (Pitts) Mefford; children: April Sipes and husband, Josh, Amber Mefford, Zack “Bubba” Mefford and Angel Mefford and husband, Armando; grandchildren: Jordan Mefford, Kaelee Mefford, Kaleb Sipes, Klara Sipes, Konnor Sipes, Joanna Alvarez, Sofia Alvarez and another Baby Alvarez on the way; his three “girls” Lucy, Prissy and Candy; his “bad pennies” Eric Wells, Brian Lunsford and Billy Williamson; many extended family members and friends that will miss him dearly.

Visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00 pm, Thursday, January 7, 2016 at Roselawn Funeral Home in Seagoville, TX. Funeral service will be 2:00 pm, Friday, January 8, 2016 at Roselawn Funeral Home, with interment at the DFW National Cemetery. Please leave condolences for the family at
