Cite and Release – which is an option under the law that allows peace officers to “cite and release” people accused of misdemeanor marijuana possession (4 ounces or less) without taking them to jail immediately – will begin in the City of Dallas on Friday, December 1.

Instead of arresting people accused of misdemeanor marijuana possession on the spot, a summons will be issued to appear in court at a later date. Currently, the City of Dallas is the only city in Dallas County that has chosen to implement Cite and Release.

Dallas DA Faith Johnson will moderate the forum with Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez, Dallas Police Department Assistant Chief Gary Tittle, County Criminal Court Judge #4 Nancy Mulder and Dallas County Assistant District Attorney Ellyce Lindberg will be the Panelists.
