Seagoville High School Academic Decathlon Team Compete At State Finals

FRISCO – The Seagoville High School Academic Decathlon Team competed at the 2017-2018 Texas State Academic Decathlon Championships in Frisco from February 22-28. This is the team’s fourth consecutive journey to the state finals and Gamaliel Flores won a bronze medal to become the first Seagoville student to win a championship medal.

The SHS Academic Decathlon Team is coached by Mark Harrington and Kylie Sumners. Team members include Luis Pena, Beatriz Avila, Lance Glenn, Abelino Rangel, Gonzalo Uresti, Jesus Montero, Wendy Jimenez, Rachel Bain, Randi Dickeson, Katelyn Brashear, Sharon Manning and Braylen Padilla.

Texas Academic Decathlon claims 11 national championship titles, six second-place honors and four third-place awards and one fifth-place in 22 years of competition at the Unitied States Academic Decathlon meets. 2004 was a history-making year. A medium school represented Texas at the USAD national competition.
